I'm crimson_phoneme and welcome to my website!

I dreamed of making my own website pretty much since using the Internet for the first time, so I finally made this one. It's like many other websites - articles about my interests, links to other cool sites and so on. My iuterests are mostly technology-focused, but I tend to pick up random interests, so expect articles about pretty much anything that I like or think about at the moment. I also like manga and anime, especially Ghost in the Shell.

My favorite area of programming are operating systems - I find it cool how they manage all other programs while interacting with users; an OS can make or break a good experience with a computer. I also find game development interesting, especially for hardware with a lot of technical limitations like old consoles. I like making websites too, but HTML isn't a programming language.

Speaking of game development, I like a lot of video games. My favourite ones are Touhou, Daggerfall (and other Elder Scrolls but Daggerfall in particular), main-series Pokemon, the Half-Life and Portal series, Plants vs. Zombies, Minecraft, Terraria and a lot of 90s first-person shooters (Doom, Quake, Unreal, Hexen, HERETIC!). Heretic and Hexen are CRIMINALLY underrated compared to Doom, we need more fantasy first-person shooters!

I enjoy keeping electronics useful as long as possible, hopefully forever. If a computer with a 486 could browse the Internet in the 90s, why shouldn't it be able to do it now? That's why I test my site on old browsers like Netscape 2. They use pretty much no resources compared to modern browsers, while still being good enough for the most important things about the Internet, like worldwide knowledge sharing. Therefore, a lot of my articles will be about how many useful things old devices can still do well today. Sure, using them can require some effort compared to the latest PC with OVER 9000 GB of RAM, but does that mean we should throw away all of them to rot in landfills?

Technology evolves so quickly that knowledge about using older devices to their full potential can be hard to find, so I'm going to share my experiences with devices here to hopefully help anyone else who happens to have a similar device or wonders if they should get that device for themselves.
